![]() And all this just repeats over the course of a 10 hour game. Then you'll encounter various Phi robots, copies of Emerl but they have entire movesets of the other named characters, problem here is you can't learn moves from these Phi battles. Win the fight and they will challenge you to a refight immediately, so the 5 rounds you just won no require another 10 right away. You will encounter a character and fight them. Compounding this is that the game is extremely repetitive. If there was a way to target specific moves I never learned about it, at least not a consistent method. it seems to be completely random what move gets learned by Emerl. you can learn duplicates of moves you already know and 2. Emerl can only learn 1 move from any character that it encounters during battle, so if you fight 3 characters in a battle you will learn 1 move from each of the 3. That said, the method to doing this is a severe drawback. The ability to customise Emerl really is the best part of the game, and it becomes extremely satisfying to finally learn one of the moves you've found useful on another character and to finally be able to add it to your custom moveset. ![]() While doing so, Emerl is slowly but noticeably becoming stronger and more competent as moves are unlocked, battle points are acquired so you can equip them and Emeralds are obtained allowing the robot to evolve into a more fulfilling character. You progress through the story, across different chapters that focus on different characters from the Sonic franchise, with Emerl tagging along as the common element throughout. ![]() So from a starting point it's a very interesting premise. Two things are learned through the story Emerl can be powered using the Chaos Emeralds allowing it's various functions to be unlocked and enhanced, and that Emerl has tne ability to record and emulate the fighting styles of other characters. Emerl starts out as a practically non-functioning machine, it can't speak and only has access to very basic, slow and ineffective fighting abilities. The main pitch of the game is thus You begin the game as Sonic the Hedgehog who comes across a new kind of robot, the "gizoid" Emerl. That said, despite its myriad of obvious and numerous problems I did mostly enjoy my time with it, if at least for nothing else than for trying something a little bit different. 9h 12m Played Sonic Battle is an interesting attempt to make an isometric fighting game set in the Sonic series, acting as a sequel to Sonic Advance 2, but it's ultimately an extremely flawed experiment. ![]()
